What an IP address does not tell anyone
An address identifies a connection, not a person. Databases map it to the registered location of a block of addresses, which is often the provider's regional hub and can be a whole state away from you. Only your provider can link an address to an account, and it does so for law enforcement under a legal process, not for a website that asks.
That is also why hiding the address is not the same as being anonymous. Cookies, logins and browser fingerprints identify you much more precisely than the address ever did. A VPN removes one signal, the network one, and it is worth being clear that it is one.

Questions people ask before the first key
Can someone find my home from my IP address?
No. A lookup gives the provider and an approximate area, often the wrong town. Only the provider can match an address to a customer, and only under a legal process.
Why would I check my IP at all?
To verify that a VPN or proxy is really carrying your traffic. It takes ten seconds and removes the guesswork.
Does my IP address change on its own?
On most home and mobile connections, yes, from time to time. Providers hand out addresses from a pool unless you pay for a static one.
Do these IP address tools store my data?
A lookup page sees your address by definition, as every site does. Reputable ones do not tie it to anything. Use a tool you trust and close the tab.
What is the difference between an IP check and a DNS leak test?
The IP check shows where your traffic appears to come from. The DNS test shows who answers your name lookups. Both should point to the VPN side.
Does BSR keep a record of my real IP?
No. There is no account and we keep no connection logs, so there is nothing to attach an address to.
