iPhone apps VPN: what to look for before you install
Every VPN on an iPhone needs an app to create the configuration. Which app, and who publishes it, decides what you are trusting.

The short answer
On an iPhone the tunnel is a system feature, and an app is only the tool that fills it in. That gives you two ways to get apps VPN for iPhone: the branded app of a VPN company, or a general purpose client that reads whatever key you give it. The second route keeps the app and the service separate, so a store removal of one brand does not take your setup with it.
With BSR the choice is already made. There is no app of ours. You install a free client, such as Streisand, V2Box or Hiddify, then import a key from the Telegram bot.
Questions to ask about any iPhone VPN app
- Who publishes it, and is that the same company that sells the connection? Separate publishers mean the app has no account system to leak.
- What does it ask for beyond the VPN permission? Contacts, tracking and location requests do not belong in a tunnel app.
- Does the free tier state its limit in the open, or does it sell you in-app after a day?
- Does the listing say what is logged, and is that sentence consistent with the privacy label in the store?
- Can you remove it cleanly? Deleting the app should leave no leftover profile besides the entry under Settings.
Why branded apps come and go
Stores remove and reinstate VPN apps for reasons that change by country and by year, and a branded app is a single point of failure. If the listing disappears, new installs stop and updates stop with it. A client that speaks a standard protocol has many alternatives, so a key moves to the next one in a minute.
This is a design choice that suits us, since our product is the key. Weigh it as a statement from a seller. The checks in the list above apply to the apps we name as well.
Set up a key on an iPhone
- 1Install one free client from the App Store. Streisand and V2Box are free, Hiddify is free and runs on other systems too.
- 2Message @bsr_key_bot in Telegram for the free trial. It asks for no card, no email and no Apple ID.
- 3In the client, add a new profile by scanning the bot's QR code or by pasting the vless:// link from the chat.
- 4Allow the configuration when iOS asks, then confirm with Face ID or the passcode.
- 5Pick a location and switch on. A VPN badge appears in the status bar.
After you connect
- ✓Open a lookup page and see that the address and the provider changed.
- ✓Test mobile data as well as Wi-Fi. The same key works on both.
- ✓The key covers five devices, so an iPad or a laptop can share it.
- ✓Check that no second profile from an old app is fighting for the same slot.
- ✓Know the limit: the tunnel covers the whole phone, but apps with location permission still read GPS.
Our stake and who wrote this
We sell a key, so a page that tells you what to look for in an app has an interest in the answer. We named the checks so you can apply them to any app, including ours. The text comes from the BSR team, with an AI model producing a first draft that we then edited. No app is ranked here.

There is no account here, so there is nothing to attach a log to. You never give us an email, a phone number or a name. The bot knows a Telegram chat, a key and an expiry date, and that is the whole record. We say that plainly instead of pretending to be beyond every jurisdiction.

Notes to the statement
Questions people ask before the first key
Which VPN apps are free on iPhone?
Streisand and V2Box have no payment for the app itself. Availability in a store changes by region, so check your own App Store.
Do I need a VPN app from the company that sells the service?
No. A general purpose client that reads the key does the same job, and it is not tied to the seller.
Can I run two VPN apps on one iPhone?
Only one tunnel is active at a time. Switch the old one off before you start the new one.
Will the VPN drain my battery?
Any always-on tunnel uses some power. We do not publish battery figures, so judge it on your own phone.
Does it work on an iPad too?
Yes. The same key and the same clients work on iPad, and the five-device limit counts it.
How do I remove the VPN from my iPhone?
Delete the client, or remove the entry in Settings, General, VPN and Device Management.
Still unsure?
Support and your key live in the same Telegram bot. The setup page shows which client to install.
