Free online VPNs: what runs in a browser and what does not

Online can mean a website, a browser add-on or an app. The three protect different amounts of your traffic, and the label rarely says which one you are getting.

No card and no account. The key is issued in Telegram in about a minute.

The three forms, side by side

  • Website (web proxy): you type an address into a box and the site fetches the page for you. Covers that page only. Apps, games and other tabs go out on your normal connection.
  • Browser add-on: reroutes the traffic of one browser. Other browsers and every app on the device are untouched. Add-ons also ask to read the pages you visit, which is a large permission.
  • App or client: creates a tunnel at the device level. Messengers, games and system updates all go through it.
  • Only the app form hides your address from everything on the device. The other two hide it from some of the sites you open in one place.

Why free and online together deserve a second look

Anything that runs in a browser tab has to be funded somehow, and the usual ways are ads on the page, a cap on how much you can load, or collecting what passes through. With a web proxy the operator sees every page you open in readable form, so the question of who runs it matters more than with an app.

That does not make every free tool bad. For one article on a locked-down school computer, a web proxy can be enough. For a login, a bank, a payment or a work account, it is the wrong tool.

Before you use any free online service

  • ✓It states who runs it and how it pays for itself.
  • ✓It says whether it keeps records of the pages you open, in concrete terms.
  • ✓It loads over HTTPS, and you can see the padlock before you type anything.
  • ✓You are not asked to sign in with an existing account.
  • ✓A browser add-on asks only for the permissions it needs to route traffic, not to read every page.

Where the key from BSR fits

BSR is not a website or an add-on. It is a VLESS key from a Telegram bot, which you paste into a free client app, so it belongs to the third form and covers the whole device. There is a free trial of ten days with no card and no account, and after that the key simply stops. Nothing renews.

The trade-off is a few minutes of setup: install a client, import the key. If you need something that opens in one click and asks for nothing, a free online tool wins on speed and loses on coverage. BSR sells the key, which colours this advice. The BSR facts in this page match what the bot shows today.

Trying the app form without paying

  1. 1Open @bsr_key_bot on Telegram and ask for the free trial.
  2. 2Copy the vless:// line or keep the QR image on screen.
  3. 3Pick an app that costs nothing: on Android that is Hiddify or v2rayNG, on an iPhone Streisand or V2Box, and on a laptop Hiddify or v2rayN.
  4. 4Import the key, choose a location, switch it on, and open a page that shows your address to confirm it changed.

There is no account here, so there is nothing to attach a log to. You never give us an email, a phone number or a name. The bot knows a Telegram chat, a key and an expiry date, and that is the whole record. We say that plainly instead of pretending to be beyond every jurisdiction.

Questions people ask before the first key

Is a free online VPN the same as a web proxy?

Often yes. Many sites that call themselves online VPNs are web proxies, which fetch one page at a time and do not protect the rest of the device.

Can a browser-only tool protect my phone apps?

No. An add-on works inside its browser. Apps on the phone use the normal connection unless a device-level tunnel is on.

Is it safe to log in to an account through a free web service?

Avoid it. The operator can see the page you open, including what you type into it. Use a tunnel you control for anything with a password.

Do free online VPNs work on school or office Wi-Fi?

Sometimes, until the network blocks their address. Well-known web proxy sites are among the first things a filter blocks.

Do I have to enter payment details for the trial?

Nothing to enter: no payment details, no email address, no sign-up. The bot hands you a key and it lapses when the trial is over.

Can the key work without installing anything?

The app does the tunnelling. A key is only a line of text that tells a client where to connect and how.

Still unsure?

Support and your key live in the same Telegram bot. The setup page shows which client to install.
